Time to get gore-geous?
Here's another invite from a PR agency that we chose to politely decline. A make-up workshop to be held in the city promises to show you how to look 'Zombie-tastic' for your Saturday night Halloween party on October 31.

We were told that the looks demonstrated would include some 'gore' and of course, 'spooky glam' for R1,000! The experts will conceal, congeal, scare and scar you to be the Halloween Queen of the night. The last line of the invite read, 'Sign up if you dare!' Needless to say, we chickened out.

Coined by Lance Dane
Here's a little nugget of cool trivia for history buffs. Did you know that Western Kshatrapas, an Indian dynasty that ruled from 1st to 5th AD, is known through its coinage alone. The dynasty also possessed the earliest dated coins in India?

Coins

Acquired by the late Lance Dane, a British Army officer, these coins are part of a mammoth collection he built comprising over 35,000 ancient Indian coins, artifacts and antiquities, going back 2,600 years.

Titled 'Ancient Coins of India — The Lance Dane Bequest', the collection was introduced to the public for the first time by the Hinduja Foundation at an exposition graced by Governor C Vidyasagar Rao. Here's some good news if you're keen to view these rare gems. We hear that the foundation has signed an MoU with Mumbai University to display the collection at Rajabai Tower, with plans for it to tour across museums in different Indian cities.

Emraan Hashmi, the author
Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi is all set to don a new role — that of a writer. The book, to be written along with Bilal Siddiqui, will look at how Hashmi's life turned upside down when his four-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer.

This difficult time was also a learning curve for the actor who about researched about the disease and its treatment. With his son, Ayaan's return to health, he intends to share this experience in a book to be published by Penguin Random House. It will include references and resources to aid those whose loved ones are fighting the disease, is expected to be out in 2016.

When the wifey calls the shots
TOUR DE FORCE: Former India cricket team coach, Gary Kirsten was happy to let wife Deborah do the talking at the release of her book, Chai Tea & Ginger on Thursday evening.

The book is an insightful look at cricket, from the eyes of Deborah as she sheds light on the pressures of international sport. It showcases the many sides of life on tour as experienced by the Kirstens.

What's your name, again?
“Will this train go to VT?” a lady asked a school-going girl while the two stood at the footboard of the ladies compartment. A tad confused, the girl, replied, “VT nahi pata, lekin yeh CST train hai. Western line mein jaana padega.”

A fellow passenger was quick to inform the lady that it was indeed a 'VT' train, in the nick of time before she could contemplate a switch of railway lines, at Dadar. This got us thinking that with all the name-changing on in full gusto, generations to come might not have a clue about the city's past. As for the little girl, she seemed happy to learn a new fact about the city, and thanked the lady before hopping off at the next station.
