A speeding dumper jumped the lane and crashed into a Qualis that was ferrying two families; deceased include three children
Eleven members from two families died on the spot and three others sustained grievous injuries in an accident which occurred on the Mumbai-Goa Highway at 11.15 pm on Sunday. The accident occurred near Dabhil village in Ratnagiri district after a sand-laden dumper that was on its way to Goa jumped lane and crashed into a Qualis that was headed for Malad from Sangameshwar.

Deceased
The deceased were identified as Ananth Chithram Chavan (65), Anila Ananth Chavan (60), Rakesh Ananth Chavan (28), Haresh Ananth Chavan (26), Nila Haresh Chavan (23), Harish Chavan (8 months), Kashinath Tukaram Mane (40), Haresh’s sister Sujata Kashinath Mane (23), Anushka Kashinath Mane (8), Aayushman Kashinath Mane (5) and car driver Prashant Arjun Manzre.
Dhondu Tukaram, a relative of the Chavans, said, “Never had I imagined that their entire family would perish in such a horrible accident. They had gone to see a prospective bride for my nephew Rakesh, and this is what happened to them on their way back home.” Officials of the Khed police station said they reached the accident spot within 15 minutes and shifted the injured to the nearest hospital. Of the three injured, those travelling in the car were identified as Abhishek Manohar Bhuwan and Ramesh Holkar (35).u00a0
The third injured was the dumper driver Muteelal Babu Chavan (26). While Bhuwan is battling for life at the Kalbani Hospital in Khed, Holkar fractured one of his legs. Truck driver Chavan fractured his skull and is undergoing treatment at Walawalker Hospital in Dervan Village alongside Holkar. Senior police inspector from the Khed police station said, “The 11 bodies were claimed by their relatives and were taken to their native place in Dapoli earlier today. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the truck driver.”u00a0
