The mouse went missing from the Web Technology Lab on October 21 and since then, the department refuses to accept journal submissions from second year students till the device is returned.
The circular issued to the second year engineering students states that the mouse had gone missing since the day the students were seen taking printouts in the technology lab N115.
While the department claims that computer devices have gone missing from the Technology lab several times, the students say that such an incident has happened for the first time.
Students speak
Confirming the incident, Rakesh Sharma (name changed), a third year student of computer engineering, said, “Yes, the incident happened recently. The mouse went missing from the Technology Lab. Hence, the lab in-charge has issued the notice for all second year students, asking them to return the mouse if they had taken it, or else the submissions would not be accepted.”
He added, “There are 25 internal marks given by the college, alloted for practicals and journal submissions by students.”
Bhushan Pathak (name changed), another third year computer engineering student, said, “There are CCTV cameras installed in the college labs, but we are not sure if they are placed in the technology lab of the computer engineering department.”
Faculty speaks
One of the faculty members of the computer engineering department, said, “Such incidents happen often, and we lose equipment from the technology lab. Recently, a mouse went missing for which a notice was issued to the students. This notice has been sent to discipline them. There are CCTV cameras in some labs, but not in all.” Dr Shubha Pandit, the principal of KJ Somaiya College of Engineering, refused to comment on the issue.u00a0
