A 17-year-old girl who was on her way to college on a train was attacked by two people while she was at the door as they tried to steal her phone. An alert cop saw the incident and immediately arrested the accused.
Nikita Zade, a resident of Marve building, Kharodi, Malad, boarded a train from Malad for Churchgate to go to college on Saturday. Zade was at the door of the train. It was around 8:45 am, when her train was reaching Bandra, that an accused who was standing on the tracks hit her hand with a bamboo stick. In pain and shock, Zade dropped her Samsung Galaxy mobile phone worth Rs 5,350. The other robber at the spot ran away with it.
Assistant police inspector Navnat Rupvate of Bandra GRP, who was on duty at a bridge near Bandra Railway station, saw the accused hitting the girl. He rushed to the spot and after chasing the robbers, arrested them.
Senior police inspector Sunil Tondwalkar of Bandra GRP told mid-day, "We have arrested the two accused, Mohammad Adil Mohammad Hannan Shaikh (19) and Mohammad Ali Santkumar Shaikh alias Malli (21), both residents of Bandra (East). They have four similar cases registered against them." Zade came back to the GRP in the evening and registered the crime. The phone was recovered from the accused and handed over to Zade.
