According to the Chembur police, Shrivastav also showed her in-law’s home to one victim by the name of Firoz Dafade. Assistant Inspector VJ Pathankar, Chembur police, said, “Shrivastav has been duping people for a long time. She would show homes belonging to others as her own.

She would then find people, who were interested in rented homes, draw up agreement copies for 11 months, and then flee with the signing amount.” Cops also said that Shrivastav would con people with the help of two other women, who are currently absconding.

The authorities added that a case was registered after four victims approached them claiming to have been conned of Rs 9.85 lakh by Shrivastav. The accused has been absconding since December 2012 and the cops said she had gone to Shirdi in order to ask for forgiveness from Sai Baba.

“After we filed the combined FIR on May 25, 2013, we have been searching for the accused. We sent teams to her residence, to her friends and even her relatives. During investigations, we received a tip-off that she would be visiting a hotel in Sion. Following which we laid a trap and got hold of her on Wednesday,” added Pathankar. Once caught, during interrogations, Shrivastav revealed that since December, she had been visiting temples in Shirdi to ask for forgiveness for her crimes.

The accused has been booked under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance) of the Indian Penal Code. She has been remanded to police custody till October 26. u00a0
