The Election Commission is likely to seek an explanation from senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde sooner than later over the reported claim that he had spent Rs 8 crore as poll expense during the 2009 general elections as against the official sanctioned limit of Rs 25 lakh.
According to a report in the New Indian Express, the Election Commission will in all likelihood question Munde on the issue, especially after he claimed that he had only Rs 6.22 crore in assets.

The paper quotes RTI activist Anil Galgali, as saying that Munde has lied about the money he spent in the elections and also about his total assets.
Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil has asked the EC to take cognizance to the claims made by Munde.
