High drama was witnessed at the Abeda Inamdar Senior College campus, where a condolence meeting was held in memory of the 14 students, who drowned at Alibaug. Relatives of the drowned students were forcefully ejected from the venue after questioning Maharashtra Cosmopolitian Education Society (MCES) President P A Inamdar regarding the college's apparent negligence. In the meanwhile, Savitribai Phule Pune University Vice-Chancellor W N Gade, who attended the meet has instructed the college authorities to provide a detailed report on the incident.

On Wednesday, the MCES which runs the college had organized a condolence meet at their campus, which was attended by more than 10,000 people. Many teachers and students fondly remembered the 14 students, which led to their deceased's relatives to become overcome with grief.
Parents of some of the college students who died in the drowning tragedy at Murud-Janjira beach on Monday have alleged "negligence" on the part of the college authorities in the aftermath of the incident. The parents alleged that they were pushed out unceremoniously by the college authorities when they tried to seek an explanation from the surrounded the president P A Inamdar.
Shivaji Salgar said, “I lost my daughter who was more like a boy to me in this incident. I am upset that the college did not undertake any efforts from their side and even the expenses for the ambulances were paid from our own pocket. College is running this institution just to make money and not for students. While bringing the dead bodies of our children no representative from the college was with them. Why where they not present?”
Ijaaz Shaikh, uncle of Iftekar Shaikh, who lost his life while saving two girls and rescued one of the them said, “Iftekar died while saving and his idol must be made in the campus and he should be nominating for president bravery award for rescuing two girls while drowning.”
Another parent Shakila Sayeed said, "This is really terrible from the college's part. They did not even made any conginsance or nofity us about the incident. No faculty or staff even tried to search save our child from drowning. What where they doing?”
Narsimha Rao, relative of deceased student Rajlaxmi Pandugayala, alleged, "The parents and relatives who went to Inamdar to seek an explanation were manhandled and insulted. We were forcefully pulled out from his office when we went to question him."
When the agitated parents and mob started targeting the college president Inamdar lost control on his tongue and said, “Remain quiet and talk politely or else you will be thrown outside." The guard forcefully pulled out some of the relatives out of the room. When the question arose about college representative not being present during post mortem Inamdar said, “One team was present and they were coordinating.”
Agitated relative Asma Sayyed was heard saying “Inamdar is responsible for this act and if he comes before us we will beat him with chappals.”
VC Gade said, "There are guidences and after the report is given to us we would be inspecting and scrutinizing whether the guidelines laid down by the varsity regarding educational tours were followed during this picnic and an aid of Rs 1 lakh will be given to the victims kin by the university. To avert such situations in future at college level a meeting needs to held to discuss precautionary measures.”
President Inamdar said, “Every year we organize various trips for students. We too are in shock from this incident and this is really unfortunate we have missed the gems of our college. We at this stage cannot come to any conclusion as we are still in pain. We have constituted a five-member committee and will be probing. The committee comprises of a law expert, an education expert and a university member. Committee will submit its report in a month's time and later the decision and conclusion will drawn based on it."
In the meantime, Matin Mujawar president of Shikshan Hakka Manch has moved an application before Pune city police to file a criminal complaint against the college authority for negliance under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.
On Monday afternoon around 14 out of 116 computer science students studying in the first, second and third year of the Abeda Inamdar Senior College run by Maharashtra Cosmopolitian Education Society (MCES) lost their lives in a picnic that was organised at Murud-Janjira fort and beach at Alibaug, Raigad district.
