It all started with our Dil Dosti Etc. contest a week back. Five of the freshest faces in town wooed our readers, and two won their way into the hearts of the voters. A lucky draw chose the fate of those who'd be fixed up for a fantasy date, and we went snooping for all the romance and goss. Here are the hot highlights.
The hotties: Bharati Hazarika and Manish Khanna
The winners: Hena Mehta and Abhimanyu Singh
The venue: Cafe Style, Atta Market, Noida
Table one: Hena and Manish
Hena couldn't help but heave at the first sight of Manish. As he walked through the door, she held her breath and smiled to us, "Wow...he looks so down to earth."
Meanwhile, the Tilak Nagar dude seemed to have read her mind. "It is an inexplicable feeling to meet you in person," she chirped, as the brawny bloke leaned ahead for a hug. Eyes met, drifted, met again, as the two tried to find that common connect.
23-year-old Hena found it -they were both pakka Punjabi at heart. Lest we eavesdrop, they started chatting in a local dialect (darn!) over sips of coffee and smiles that gave away more than what sounded like Greek to us. Manish finally spoke up in English. "I'm a Piscean who's very attached to his family." Hena was bowled already. When she got curious about what the profession of modelling was all about, deep down, our man had his answer ready. " It is quite grilling, and models should not restrict their lives to it. I'm a multi-tasking person u2014 I want to be an actor, set up my own gym, and get involved with dad's business."
Impressed, thrice over. Secrets of staying fit were shared thereafter over coffee and snacks amid Cafe Style's red hot interiors done up with a bike and car et al. Okay, enough of poking nose. We excused ourselves.
Table two: Bharati and Abhimanyu
A brown-eyed beauty awaits a man she's never seen. He's late, thanks to maniacal traffic between Gurgaon and Noida. Is she fuming inside? "Oh no, he should be there any time now." Fortune teller, or forgiving
fairy? Women, as they say, always leave you with wonder.
Our dude enters, overtly apologetic and articulate. Why did he vote for her, we ask. "I liked the kind of attitude she had on her face," he grinned from ear to ear, almost pinching to check if what was happening was for real.
Men may be bad at making conversation, but Abhimanyu sure wasn't. He had our lady giving away almost everything about her as introductions followed. "I love music, reading, movies, and hate
hypocrites and liars. In food, I like having simple home-cooked dishes," she revealed. So would he step into the kitchen if things got going between them? Who cares, enough was cooking there already, we
could sniff!!
Midway, the owner of the uber chic hangout, Chetan Malik, dropped in to check if our guests were comfortable. Signature brownies were rolled in to make things even sweeter.
The couples got busy smiling, twirling their hair, fiddling with the mugs, batting their eyelids and occasionally glancing at us.
