Reacting to recent unofficial remarks made by Congress men, NCP leaders say their candidates will do well in upcoming Lok Sabha election
Reacting to recent comments made by Congress leaders stating that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) does not have any leaders with mass appeal in the city, NCP leaders have reacted angrily asserting that their leaders would perform well in the upcoming general elections.u00a0Some senior Congress leaders made the unofficial statements during a meeting with their party observer recently to discuss probable party candidates for 2014 Lok Sabha election.

NCP leaders even hinted that former deputy CM Ajit Pawar would be doing the legwork in the impending LS elections. u00a0Reacting over the Congress leaders’ claims, district guardian minister Sachin Ahir said that he was surprised with their take, since Congress leaders were conscious that in the municipal elections held last year in Pune and Pimpari-Chinchwad, NCP had bagged maximum seats.
“I think Congress leaders are unaware about this trend where Puneites vote NCP candidates,” Ahir said. He also confirmed that Ajit Pawar had been looking after political developments in the district and for the LS elections he would make special efforts.u00a0In the municipal corporation election held, NCP had won 51 out of 152 seats in the PMC, while Congress secured only 28 seats. In Pimpari-Chinchwad, NCP secured absolute majority by winning 83 of the 128 seats.
NCP Member of Parliament from Baramati, Supriya Sule, said whatever Congress leaders were saying was their personal opinion. u00a0“Our party is the party with discipline and we never react to such comments, even though they are made by our alliance partner,” Sule said. u00a0She also confirmed that Ajit Pawar would take an interest in the development of the city considering the upcoming LS elections.
NCP party spokesperson for city unit, Ankush Kakade, states that his party has many efficient candidates who would contest the upcoming election.
“Congress party’s situation is not up to the mark in the city, and their leaders have lost the mass appeal in the city,” said Kakade. u00a0
