With the High Court adjourning the hearing of their anticipatory bail plea and slotting it for today, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and wife Anitha cannot wish away their imminent arrest as yet.
According to legal experts, if the High Court rejects the bail plea, the couple in all probability could be remanded to judicial custody. Earlier, adjourning the petition judge L Narayana Swamy sought objections from the Lokayukta police to seek their opinion before granting bail.
Kumaraswamy and Anitha are also appearing before the Lokayukta court simultaneously to face the trail on
two corruption cases against them. "I can't pass any order without hearing the prosecution", said the Judge, responding to the counsel for the couple who argued that there is a likelihood of Kumaraswamy, an MP and JDS state president, being issued an arrest warrant when he appears before the Special Lokayukta Court today.
A private complaint filed by one Vinod Kumar accused Kumaraswamy of corruption charges in bulk allotment to a housing society and granting permission to a mining company during his tenure as Chief Minister. Special Lokayukta Court Judge N K Sudhindra Rao yesterday ordered that the couple must be present during the next hearing today. The duo was given exemption from personal appearance during the last hearing on August 30 on health grounds.
