New Delhi: A Delhi court has sent a man to seven years in jail for raping his minor daughter and trying to kill her when she disclosed the fact to others, saying he committed one of the most grave offences which could be imagined on earth. The court also sent the man's 60-year-old brother to jail for seven years for attempting to kill the 16-year-old girl.

"The offence proved against the convict (father) is one of the most grave offences which can be imagined on earth. After committing rape on her daughter, he along with another convict (girl's uncle) tried to kill her to save his face.
"Therefore, the law would not permit any leniency to be taken as far as this convict is concerned. However considering his family background and the fact that he is the only support for the other four children... this court is constrained to take a flexible approach and accordingly sentences the father to rigorous imprisonment for a term of seven years," Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Sharma-I said.
The 45-year-old father, who was held guilty for offences of rape, molestation and attempt to murder, was also slapped with a fine of Rs 13,000. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on his elder brother.
The victim had lodged a complaint with Gokal Puri Police Station in north east Delhi alleging that her father had raped her in July 2011 while she was sleeping alone in a room as her mother was admitted to a hospital. She alleged that her father had tied her hands and feet and raped her and also asked her to remain quiet. After the incident, she told her grandmother and uncle about it but they did not do anything.
Later, her father and uncle planned to kill her as she had defamed them and tried to strangulate her with a cloth but she was rescued by her mother, she told the police.
The girl alleged that after few days, her father again started teasing her and she approached the police. During the trial, both the accused claimed they were innocent and have been falsely implicated in the case.
The court, in its judgment, noted that as per the medical report of the victim, she was sexually assaulted. "It has been proved beyond reasonable doubt that accused committed rape upon her own daughter," it said.
