An official at the institute confirmed that the governing council was going to visit the institute. "They are visiting the campus and have some official meetings lined up throughout the day," said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The Nair committee will submit the highlights of the draft it has formed so far to the council. "The committee will be submitting the draft to the governing council on April 25. It's already ready and now we are waiting to see the reaction of the newly joined members. As they will be at the institute for the first time, we hope they approve the detailed project report on the revitalisation and upgradation of the institute," said Manoj Kumar, Cultural Secretary, FTII.
P K Nair, chairperson, Group of Experts for Revitalisation and Upgrad-ation (FTII), said it would take another month for the committee to submit its final report.
"We are including the total costs involved, because of which it's taking time. We have included building up a set-up like a research centre, short-term courses, more hostels and classrooms," said Nair.He added that the reaction of the governing council would not affect the final report. "I cannot speak about the highlights we are presenting on Monday now, but only after we meet the governing council," said Nair.
The report so far has been suggesting the remodelling of the building and structures for maximum use and developing the 36 acres of land within the institute premises. It has highlighted that the duration of the three-year course has been extending beyond five years, because of which students have been staying on campus for great lengths of time.
