Tree uprooted in recent storm replanted at crematorium by two young nature lovers

Onkar Vahikar and Rajesh Kamble, two nature loversu00a0 in their early 20s, saved a 12-year-old peepul tree yesterday.
The tree, uprooted in a storm last week, was saved when Vahikar and Kamble called up the PMC Garden Department yesterday afternoon and made sure that the it was replanted.

The Garden Department is officially closed on Sunday but Vahikar and Kamble requestedu00a0 Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials to get an excavator to remove the tree fallen outside the Poona Hospital and help replant it at the nearby Vaikunth in 30 minutes.
Soon after the call was made, Vilas Dhobale, horticulturist, and Rajesh Shinde, tree inspector, visited the spot
and helped remove the tree and replant it at the crematorium.
"When we contacted Bhanudas Mane, deputy commissioner, Garden Department at noon, he did not waste any time but made arrangements to remove and carry the tree in the next 30 minutes," said Vahikar. "We are really grateful to PMC for not losing a moment to save the tree."
'It'll survive'
Shinde said, "I feel though the roots have been open in the air for last five to six days, the peepul tree that is 12-year-old will survive."
