Bareilly: In a miracle of sorts, a newborn delivered by a Nepalese national inside the toilet of a moving train slipped through sewage pipe onto the tracks but survived unscathed at Bhojipura Railway station.

Pushpa Tamta (40), onboard Bareilly-Tanakpur passenger train, experienced labour pains while the train stopped at Bhojipura Railway station on Tuesday.

The woman gave birth to a girl child in the toilet, but the newborn accidentally slipped through the toilet pipe and fell on the tracks, the police said.

Bystanders got alarmed on hearing the cries of the baby. Passengers pulled the emergency chain bringing the train to a halt after it moved some 500 metres. The mother and child were then united, the police said.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Brijesh Srivastava said GRP personnel swung into action and rushed the duo to Bhojipura health centre where the medical officer in-charge, Dr Saurabh, said the child was totally safe and did ‘not have even a scratch’ on her body.
