Amitabh Bachchan's character was probably ahead of his time when he gifted Indu, played by Hema Malini, a watermelon in the '80s film Satte Pe Satta. But not anymore. You too can now show loved ones how much you care with Fruitilicious' array of fruit bouquets.

Fruit bouquets are a good way to show you care about the person by gifting them a hamper full of Vitamin C, antioxidants, and nutrients that fresh fruits are packed with. "Health's a great gift," says 26-year-old Reza Kazerooni, who teamed up with friend Sufiyan Siddiqui to start Fruitilicious in October of this year.

Reza, whose sister Nargis "uses her natural aesthetic sense to design the stunning arrangements here", came across the fruit bouquet concept while working in Dubai, and felt confident that the idea would be well-received by the health-conscious Mumbaikar.

After doing some initial groundwork, he invited an American fruit-basket stylist to conduct a 20-day-training session with his team. "The fruits have to be cut into specific shapes, and sent for delivery, as soon as possible," Reza explains, informing us that bouquets can take anywhere from 40 minutes to 1 hours to prepare.

"Temperature is crucial. We use an air-conditioned van to deliver the bouquets as freshness is paramount," he says, adding that partner Sufiyan actually designed special equipment to ensure that the fruits are chopped in an efficient manner.

Prices start at Rs 1,200 and arrangements aren't priced according to the weight of their contents, though Reza says, "The more expensive they are, the more they contain." The most expensive is the aptly named 'The Red Carpet', which is priced at Rs 4,000. "It's a generous assortment of cantaloupes as well as Honeydew melons, pineapples, strawberries and grapes."

At present, they have 15 styles on offer, all of which can be created irrespective of the season, Reza tells us. "We import strawberries directly from the US, maltas (oranges) from South Africa and kiwis from New Zealand." Arrangements may also include locally sourced fruits, but no matter where they come from, the bouquet of your choice can be created and delivered within 24-hours notice. There is no additional charge for deliveries between south Mumbai and Bandra.
