The body of Tamar Farha (28), an Israeli national who was brutally murdered by her city-based boyfriend, continues to remain on ice at a hospital mortuary. Neither the Israeli Embassy, nor her parents have come forward to claim the body.

The Talaghattapura police, as per procedure, informed the Israeli Embassy and sent Farha's finger print samples for technical identification and also informed her parents about her death.

Das, who killed Farha, was a yoga teacher. The duo met at a yoga camp in Rishikesh in 2007 and were having an affair since then

Besides her parents requesting the police not to conduct a post-mortem on the body since they are Jews and funeral customs prohibit embalming and removal of organs and fluids, they have not indicated if they would be coming to complete the formalities.

The police, on the other hand, are awaiting the post-mortem reports to begin further investigation into the case and the Israel Embassy has given permission to go ahead with procedures.

The police said that they have been constantly informing the embassy and Farha's parents of the developments. However, beyond the unusual request, nothing else has been indicated.

A police official said, "I do not think they are really interested. Neither the family members, nor the officials from the embassy, have replied to us as yet."

He added that the embassy and Farha's parents will be contacted again. "If they do not respond, we would take necessary steps and perform the last rites according to their customs," he said.

Chilling murder
Das killed Farha about 21 days ago and stuffed her body into a large freezer. Later, he tried to cut the body into pieces, but could not do so as it was frozen solid. The crime would have gone undetected had it not been for the frequent power cuts in the city.
