Authorities may not allow the campus for commercial use by private players
2011 has changed things in and around Delhi University. Every admission season, during June-July, at the university's north campus, a number of private institutions come to promote a plethora of courses and career options.

However, this has changed from the 2011 academic session, as university authorities are considering not allowing the campus for commercial use by private players. Every year private institutes like NIIT, Frankfinn and Kingfisher put up canopies and stalls inside various college premises as well as on the campus roads. Many such promotional camps were also held by the Delhi University Students' Union to help students who had not been able to secure admission in any of the DU colleges. Sources in the university say this would not be the case from this year onwards.
"No such promotional activities by private companies would be allowed this year. However, the move is still to be discussed further before being made official," said an official on the condition of anonymity.
According to insiders, the university administration has sought help from the Delhi police to not let the campus roads and pavements be used by outsiders.
"The idea is to not let university space be used by outsiders. It is to make sure that any commercial use
of our space by private companies for their benefits is not allowed," said a university official.u00a0"We are just being roped in by the university to help them in their bid to stop outsiders from using their space for
promotions," said a Delhi police official.
However I B Rani, DCP north, said, "We have not been intimated by the university yet. But in case they need help in placing things in order, we are ready to help." Meanwhile, student leaders claim they are not happy with the move and will hold a meeting with the university officials on the matter. They claim many of the stalls are held by them to assist students who couldn't make it to DU. "We have planned to set up photocopy and fax centres this year to help students at the Vishwavidyalya metro station, faculty of arts in north campus and one in south campus as well. These can be set up with the help of private companies. We are yet to seek permission for the same," said Jitender Chaudhry, president, DUSU.
