Omar Abdullah was today sworn in as the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister to head the National Conference-Congress coalition government in the state.

Omar Abdullah was today sworn in as the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister to head the National Conference-Congress coalition government in the state.


Governor N N Vohra administered oath of office and secrecy to Omar at General Zorawar Singh auditorium in the presence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who flew in here from New Delhi to take part in the ceremony.


The 38-year-old leader, who took oath in English, is the youngest chief minister of the state and the 11th to hold office.

Former J-K assembly speaker and three-time MLA Tara Chand of Congress took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister. Six-time MLA Abdul Rahim Rather was sworn in as Minister of State.


Other ministers to be sworn in the J&K government are three-time MLA and former JKPCC Chief Peerzadas Mohmmad Sayeed, Taj Mohideen, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Shyam Lal Sharma, all Congress, and Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mian Altaf, Surjeet Salathia from NC.
