Three days after the new system to register complaints against errant autorickshaw drivers was implemented, the traffic police said the response was overwhelming. As many as 125 cases have been registered against auto drivers, the traffic police said.
About 500 booklets have been distributed to all constables and officers posted at various chowks in the entire city. With this system, commuters can directly approach traffic cops, who would register their complaints then and there. Action will be taken against any rickshaw driver misbehaving with commuters, demanding exorbitant fares, and refusing to travel short distances. The system was implemented on October 11.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil said, "We are getting good response to the complaint book initiative. The licence of the rickshaw drivers concerned will be cancelled after the complaints are forwarded to the Regional Transport Office (RTO)."
"The complaints are pouring in from areas such as Pune station and Shivajinagar railway stations, as well as bus terminals at Swargate and Shivajinagar," Patil said.
"The traffic police and the RTO have filed cases against 1,124 autorickshaw drivers from January to September this year, for not having licenses to ply. Passengers were required to go to the RTO with complaints, but it proved to be inconvenient. So the booklet system, was launched which has got a huge response," Patil said.
