One Maoist rebel was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Palamau district of Jharkhand Thursday morning, police said.

One Maoist rebel was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Palamau district of Jharkhand Thursday morning, police said.


According to the police, the gun battle took place near Semra village of Palamau district which is around 220 Km from Ranchi. Following a tip off, the police raided the village.


Around seven Maoist rebels were present when police raided the village. The gun battle lasted for nearly two hours. In the battle one Maoist rebel of Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) was killed while the rest managed to escape.


Police seized one revolver and Maoist literature, among other things, from the killed Maoist rebel.

Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. Nearly 1,500 people have been killed in Maoist-related violence in the last eight years.
