The blaze at Shrinivas Engineering Autocomp in Talegaon Dabhade took 10 hours to douse. The fire brigade had to press 10 fire tenders into service to fight the blaze.
Property worth Rs 10 crore was gutted. The company manufactures spare parts of two- and four-wheelers.
The fire started from a rubber conveyor belt in one of the sections and rapidly spread to the adjoining sections. The fire brigade said an oil tank kept in one of the rooms also caught fire and this resulted in a blast.
“After the blast, the labourers panicked and started running outside, because of which a stampede took place in which one labourer died and some other workers sustained injuries,” a fire brigade official said. “Some employees informed the fire brigade and immediately 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire, but because of the thick smoke and darkness it took us 10 hours to control the fire.”u00a0
