Sanjay Tukaram Kokre, who was admitted on Friday to government-run Sassoon Hospital here, was in a critical condition. Hospital sources said Kokre, a schoolteacher from a nearby village, was put on ventilator after his condition deteriorated but he later died. With Kokre's death, the total number of deaths here has climbed to two.
Earlier, on August 3, 14-year-old schoolgirl Reeda Shaikh, died due to the H1N1 virus. Another swine flu patient, 53-year-old Fahmida Panwala, who was a diabetic with a history of hypertension, died in Mumbai.
Of the total cases, 71 were reported on Saturday with 34 cases from Pune alone. Altogether 511 patients of the total cases have been discharged while three have died. The rest are being treated in stipulated government hospitals across the country.
