Parents demand police action against principal and director

Hundreds of parents gathered at the entrance of a popular school in Wanowrie yesterday, demanding police action against its director and principal who they claim neglected the complaint of rape of an 11-year-old student of their school.

The crime was allegedly committed by a school bus attendant and driver in October 2013. The parents of the girl lodged a police complaint last Thursday (April 17), and the cops subsequently arrested the accused duo.

Dr Paramanand Kataria, parent of another student, said, “The principal (who has now tendered a resignation) and director should be suspended by the school for not heeding the complaint of the survivor’s parents. Along with that, the school should also file a police complaint against both of them for not doing their duties and neglecting such a serious incident.”

Another parent, Mamta Kulkarni, said, “Even after it has come to light that both principal and director of the school are guilty of not acting on the written complaint of the parents, the school has only slapped them show-cause notices. Then both of them tendered their resignations. But looking at the graveness of the incident, the school should immediately lodge a police complaint against them.”

On Monday, the school chairman sent a letter to the Wanowrie police station, stating, “We are in receipt of the letter from a group of parents of our school stating that the director of our school and the principal neglected their duty by not taking prompt action against the complaint reported to them by the victim’s father four months before. We request you to lodge an FIR and take action against them in case the allegations against them are true and correct.”

Until evening yesterday, Wanowrie police officials had not lodged any complaint.

On April 7, Deccan police had arrested another pair of schoolbus driver and attendant for molesting a four-year-old inside the bus.
