Prof. Rajiv Verma, Chairperson, BA programme committee and course material development committee said, "The problem affects external cell students who don't have to attend colleges.
However, the students are also not really interested in what is going on in the classroom.
We have got all the course contents available on the Internet but they are hardly interested in putting any efforts."
The Academic Council of the University of Delhi adopted the report of the BA restructuring committee and decided to introduce a new BA programme in September 2003.
Under this resolution a BA programme Committee was constituted at the university level to formulate foundation and application courses and take appropriate measures to implement the programme.
According to this in the final year there are 26 application courses from which the students have to select one and passing in that subject is compulsory. Apart from that there is one language course and two main subjects.
Sudhir Kumar, a final year external cell student said, "We write exams without even reading a book. We have taken up the issue with the university authorities several times but all efforts went in vain."
Rohit Bansal levied similar allegations. Bansal is also a student of BA programme final year. He opted for mass communication, but the entire year got no study material.
The publications division of the university agreed. One of the officials, requesting anonymity, said: "Whenever a course is revised we are not informed in due time. Therefore, the students often have to do without
study material."
