IT started with a numberu00a0 3,80,000 photos to sift through to bring you the best from MiD DAY's archives in the last decade. We expected it; after all, we were capturing every moment in the past ten years in Mumbai, a city that changes infinitesimally, a city that never sleeps and ensures that we photo-journalists don't.

Image after image, we shortlisted the number to 675 pictures, which were then whittled down to a mere 20 photos to define a decade.

Offbeat images that caught the quirky side of Mumbai were the first casualties, while years like 2007 and 2009 had the most number of outstanding pictures. In the process, we discovered that terror and crime have predominated the past five years and are now woven into our city's identity.

And yet, despite it all, Mumbai remains as vibrant as it did in 2000.u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0
