Anti-Extortion Cell arrests two people for making over 1,500 fake ration cards

Theu00a0Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) of the city police has busted a racket of bogus ration cards and SIM cards.
The suspects arrested have been identified as Gulab Abdul alias Inamdar (65) from Alandi and Bhaskar Tanaji Ghute (44), a resident of Tingre Nagar in Yerawada. Ghute originally hails from Shevgaon in Ahmednagar while Inamdar is from the city itself.

The Zonal Officer of Food Distribution Office, Shrikant Anant Shinde (51) lodged the complaint in this regard.
The suspects were taken into custody yesterday morning and 80 ration cards including 66 white cards (below poverty line) and 14 orange cards (Above Poverty Line) were recovered from them at the time of arrest. They were remanded in police custody until Saturday.

Police Inspector (AEC) Kishor Jadhav said, "Inamdar and Ghute have been into this business for more than two years. The suspects used to charge Rs 700 to Rs 3,000 from their clients depending on the financial background in each case. They have confessed that they prepared more than 1,500 bogus ration cards using documents given by their clients. We are also investigating if the two used these documents to procure SIM cards."

Jadhav said, "Ghute had been visiting the rationing office since many years and knew all the procedures carried out in the office. They used to purchase a brown bond paper similar to the one used in original ration cards and then erased names and addresses of citizens using a whitener. Then they wrote names of their clients. Such bogus ration cards may have been used by hundreds of people to obtain driving licenses, passport or as identity proof."
