Priest attacked inside Gurdwara

It was 6.30 pm and he was walking among the crowd of devotees which throngs the Amar Colony gurdwara every day.

The sudden outburst shook the devout in the hall and some of them rushed towards Bedi to save him. However, after Bedi, the man turned to others who came to the priest's rescue.

He also slashed hard at some of them with his dagger and then walked out of the gurdwara.

Next on his target, was the market adjacent to the gurdwara.

Chandan Singh, an eyewitness to the incident, said: "Suddenly, a man came from nowhere and attacked people in the market with a dagger. He was threatening to kill anybody who would try to stop him. He was shouting abuses. I thought he was mentally unstable."

During this time, somebody called the Police Control Room and a few police officials tried to get hold of him.

Assistant Sub-inspector Ranvir Singh was also attacked by the accused. The locals then joined in and helped the police in catching him. As soon as they overpowered him, people thrashed him hard. He was later arrested.

The injured were rushed to the nearby Moolchand Hospital after which they were referred to the Trauma Centre.

Although none of the police officials divulged any details about the incident, sources said the man was from the Trans Yamuna area in east Delhi and he was not mentally unstable. "We have arrested him. We will be investigating why he turned violent," the police said.
