Newbie fast food chain Burger Shack needs to shape up if it wants to compete with veterans McDonald's, KFC and Bembos
Burger Shack is a US fast food chain that serves upu00a0 you guessed it America's biggest contribution to gastronomy. Coincidentally, London has a Burger Shack chain too. Coming from grill restaurant and bar stable Smollensky's, this chain is poles apart; with its classier approach to the way fast food is served. We dropped in at the first outlet of Burger Shack in Mumbai there are three at InOrbit Malad, and realised the only thing the Mumbai chain has in common with those abroad is the name. 
It opened six months ago, and was followed by one at Mithibai College and another one at InOrbit Vashi. The menu is promising with elegantly titled burgers like Supreme (regular vegetarian at Rs 70) and Gourmet (veg and non-veg at Rs 110), wraps (Veg Tortilla Fold and Herb Chicken Fold), French Fries and Ice Tea. 
What differentiates the stall from a burger giant McDonald's franchisee is the size and convenience. Mall rats can drop in to the stall, pick up a burger and take it away or munch at the food court. We loved the Chicken Salsa Burger (Rs 75); the spicy pattice and sauce were just right. The double decker Gourmet Veg Burger is quite a mouthful, although the pattice lacked character. The lemongrass in the Ice Tea was a good touch, and the Chicken Golden Nuggets were addictive. Ironically, house specialty Shack Burger (Rs 70) was disappointing. We suggest you pick up a Super Saver Combo (burger with Ice Tea (Rs 90 for non veg, Rs 85 for veg) plus French Fries and Chicken or Chaat Nuggets (Rs 140, Rs 130 for veg).
