Twenty-three police officers along with the dog squad rushed to the house of former President Pratibha Patil's cousin Narendrasingh M Patil's house, early on Friday morning, after they got information about a theft of Rs 2.5 lakh.
According to police, an unidentified person stole the cash from Patil's residence in Pooja Classic Apartment, Balajinagar, on Thursday night. A case of house break-in has been registered with the Nigdi police station.
The incident came to light after a rag picker found the house open and alerted Patil's neighbours. On being informed, senior inspector of unit IV, inspector in-charge of the property cell, assistant commissioner of police, zone II, and deputy commissioner of police along with other officers reached the spot and started investigation.
Speaking to mid-day, Vijaykumar Palsule, senior inspector of Nigdi police station, said, "Apart from staying in Pune, the complainant also visits his son in New Delhi for around 15 days in a month. The thief made away with only Rs 2.50 lakh cash. The other valuables, which included gold and silver jewellery were untouched.
"Further investigation into the matter is on. The culprit will be nabbed soon."
