Meena Mansa (42), Pune's only lady bouncer, is out of a job. She quit her position at En Vogue, a night club, in Fatima Nagar, because she's beaten up so many unruly youths in the last five years on her job that she's too scared to return home unescorted after work now.
"I have roughed up several young boys at various night clubs, so I have grown a little nervous about returning home alone at night. When my employers could not come up with a solution, I quit."
Mansa, who has trained in self-defence with an army official in Pimpri, took up a bouncer's job so she could take care of her two daughters. "I am as good as any male bouncer but I have always been paid less than them. I am looking for a bouncer's position in some other night club and hope to get paid as much as any male," said Mansa.
Deeleep Bhandari, the director of En Vogue, said that contrary to Mansa's claims, his club paid all bouncers equally. "En Vogue hired Mansa because it was easier to deal with women who drank more than they could handle. A female bouncer is a big help in such cases," he said.
