Though the number of women going for the surgery is not huge, the concept has become quite popular with Pune women in the last few years.

"I have performed more than 20 surgeries in the last three years and the number of women going for it is increasing every year," said, Dr Tejinder Bhatti, a city-based plastic surgeon. He added that most of the women who opt for vaginal rejuvenation are independent and are between 35 and 45 years old.

Similarly, other plastic surgeons in the city too admit that there is a steady growth of 10 per cent in the number of women opting for the surgery. Dr R Gandhi, president of the Plastic Surgeon Association in Pune, said, "Though the concept was introduced in India some five years ago, it has become popular in the last couple of years."

Net gains
He added that Internet has played a crucial role in creating an awareness about the subject.

Speaking about the reason why women go for vaginal rejuvenation, Dr Bhatti said, "It makes the woman feel more youthful and the sensation in the vagina while making love makes the act more enjoyable to both the partners."u00a0 He added that several of his clients have revealed that they have been making love more often post surgery.

According to doctors, the cost and time factor too is drawing in women to undergo the surgery. "It only takes three hours to wind-up the entire procedure and the patient is discharged from the clinic within a day," said Dr Bhatti. The surgery costs around Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh.

He, however, cautioned that women should abstain from sexual intercourse for three weeks after the operation.
