Sources said that the rail fracture occurred near Parsik cabin between Thane and Airoli. This led to series of trains lining one behind the other, forcing commuters to walk on the tracks.
’’We were waiting inside the train for more than 15 minutes until we realised that there was some problem. Everyone jumped from the train and kept walking towards Thane,’’ said A Mirza a daily commuter who boards train from Airoli for Thane.
Normally it takes not more than 7-minutes by train between Airoli and Thane but on foot, it took nearly 50 minutes for people to walk on the tracks and reach Thane. ‘’It was a rail fracture due to which the train services stalled,’’ said A Rane, chief PRO, Central Railway.
The problem was rectified by 9.50 am as they clamped the broken track.
The railway authorities had to cancel eight trains during this period. While trains were running late by 20 minutes during this time, until there was normalcy in train services at around 12 noon.
