Poseur flashes fake I-card at real cop
Au00a0railway volunteer was caught red-handed by the Nigdi police on Sunday when he tried to pass himself off as a railway police officer.
Police Sub-Inspector R B Malwadkar was on night patrol at the Pune-Mumbai Expressway when around 2.45 am he got a message from DCP Makrand Ranade of Special Branch asking him to come to Ford Motors. Malwadkar found a Honda City car there with three people inside. When asked, one of them named Rajendra Wakade Deshmukh claimed to be a railway police officer.
To Malwadkar's surprise, Deshmukh even showed his identity card with the railway police written on it and the signing authority and a revenue stamp along with the police monogram.
After careful scrutiny it was found that Deshmukh was working as a railway volunteer and helped send couriers.
The identity card was laminated carefully with the word "volunteer" concealed within the revenue stamp.
Explaining the possible motive for the impersonation, Malwadkar said, "It makes the work a lot easier for courier (volunteers) when one shows a police Id card."
A case of cheating under IPC 170, 420 has been registered against Deshmukh at the Nigdi police station.
