Festivals are an integral part of college life; no classes and only fun. However, fests such as Mindspark of the College of Engineering, Pune (COEP) are more than fun, as the technical ideas presented by the students are informative and intriguing.
The three-day festival held over the weekend had everything from creating awareness about green earth, and presenting entrepreneurial visions to some innovative ideas like wheelomation and dogfight.
More than 10,000 students were present and more than 200 colleges from across the country had participated. Eight colleges from outside Maharashtra showcased their talents.
About 850 students from COEP appointed as volunteers worked for almost three months to make the event a success.
Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Director, said that the fest helped students develop teamwork, management skills and the ability to express their ideas.
He was all praise for the students and said: "Look at the amount of information available with these students. They are so talented. I was amazed at the ideas presented during the entrepreneurial presentations. Each idea could cost between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 and will create waves. These students are socially aware and technically savvy."u00a0
The festival was launched back in 2007, as a technical event, with the idea to motivate participants to come up with original methods to solve problems, while simultaneously educating and involving people in the latest developments in the field of science and technology.
