If you think you're not rich enough to own a piece of art, think again. Now you can rent art, be it a painting or a sculpture, on a monthly basis at iART. Made from bronze and brass, the sculptures come in different sizes and shapes. All you have to do is take a look around, see what catches your eye, and then, well, rent it.u00a0

"I'm not targetting a specific clientele. I believe everyone has the right to experience art. You can experiment with it; see if it grows on you. That's how this concept came about. Money shouldn't stand in the way of truly experiencing art. That's why I started this venture," claims owner, Ramesh Sadhwani.u00a0u00a0

If you want to rent a sculpture, a contract has to be signed with the store and a deposit should be made and then you're good to carry home your borrowed piece of art. The age-old mantra of 'You break it, you buy it' is followed here which is highlighted in the contract.

The artists dwell deep in the villages of West Bengal from where these paintings and sculptures are imported. Most of them are of Indian origin with one Sri Lankan in the picture. None of the artists are from Karnataka so far.

One can also rent paintings and Sadhwani has promised to bring in sculptures made of junk that would stand at least 7-8 feet in height exclusively for organisations and companies. "I'm planning to do this on a larger scale and finally go international with this idea. I believe everyone has a right to enjoy good art", says Sadhwani.u00a0u00a0

Dr Kshama Bhatia, one of the clients who has rented a painting, says, "I think it's a fantastic idea. One can keep changing the mood depending on the season. It also brings about a change of taste and one gets to live with art. I use it mainly for my office decor."

At: The Rent a Sculpture exhibition is on till August 16 between 9:30 am and 8 pm at iART on Lavelle Road.
