Bored of your current playlist? Is the same CD stuck on repeat? We've found just the place to check out some new talent this weekend

FUNKY bar B Flat plays host to not one but two hot bands this weekend. We talked to both bands to find out more before their Bangalore debuts.

HFT

First up is highly-experienced HFT, who got together in Delhi when good friends, lead-guitarist, Arjun Sen and drummer, Sam Shullai, came across bassist Lew Hilt.

Arjun's instinctive and unpredictable guitar style has been on the music scene since the 80's as part of various bands including Don't Lose the One and Great Society, where he first played with Sam.

Sam has been a busy guy too drumming for Mojo, Soul Mate and 4th Element as well Brit artist Liz Cotton and earning himself a great reputation. Lew's background is firmly in rock, starting in the Calcutta park street music scene; Lew's former bands include High and Shiva. But he is no stranger to the Jazz scene either, playing with leading Jazz artists in India from Carlton Kito of Kolkata to Louis Banks and Braz Gonsalves.

We talked to the guys to find out more about their music:

Sarah Long: What is your sound like?
HFT:
The sound of the band is a result of all the influences we have accumulated and shaped over the years.

SL: Do you think that music has changed over the years that you have been performing?
HFT:
Change being the only constant, music and everything around us has changed. However the reason and desire to do something remains the same. The audience in recent years have been more receptive to original sounds from bands and I don't mean just us -- there are more bands writing original material with an audience for it than ever before.

SL: Which age group does your sound cater to?
HFT:
We've never planned our sound to appeal to any particular age group and it does feel good that we find the sound appeals to the young and older audiences.

HFT will be performing their own brand of jazz fusion live on February 19 at 8:30 pm.

Taking inspiration from Indian and Western, traditional and contemporary styles, their passion for improvisation should guarantee a completely individual experience.

Five Little Indians

Sarah Long: Where are you originally from? When was the band formed?
Five Little Indians:
we are from Kolkata. The band was formed in 2007.

SL: Is this the first time you will be performing in Bangalore?
FLI:
Yes.

SL: What is your sound like? Who are you influenced by?
FLI:
We don't like to put ourselves into any genre. But yes, the core of our music is rock. We play only original music and our influences are each other.

SL: You have all been in the music industry for a while. How has music changed over the years?
FLI:
The fact that we are in Bangalore playing only original music speaks for itself.

SL: Which age group does your sound cater to?
FLI:
So far, we have seen audiences from 15 to 40 at our shows.

SL: How is it playing in Bangalore? How is the audience in Bangalore different from the rest of the country?
FLI:
At the moment we have the same questions in our minds. This is our first time here.

SL: What are the plans for the band for 2010?
FLI:
To record our debut album and to gig as much as we can.
