Srinagar: Restrictions were imposed on Friday in parts of Srinagar to prevent a march called by separatists, police said.

"Restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under police stations of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj, Safakadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud in Srinagar city today. Restrictions have been imposed to maintain law and order in the city," a senior police official said on Friday.

Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has called for a 'Solidarity March' in Srinagar to remember those killed in communal clashes in Jammu in 1947.

All the separatist leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan and Asiya Andrabi have been placed in preventive detention ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Srinagar on Saturday.

Shops, public transport, businesses and educational institutions remained closed on Friday in the city.

Attendance in government offices, banks and post offices was thin because of non-availability of public transport.

All examinations of Kashmir University scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been postponed.

Police and paramilitary troopers in full riot gear have been deployed in Srinagar.

Modi will address a public rally in Srinagar city on Saturday.

On Thursday, 14 CRPF troopers were injured when separatist guerrillas hurled a grenade inside their camp in Srinagar.
