An ABVP member was allegedly picked up by rival group NSUI and harassed in a moving vehicle; NSUI national secretary denies charges
The much-awaited Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections are just a few days away. And rival players are now playing dirty. In a recent incident during campaigning in the north campus, an Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) member of Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, Dev Nagar, was allegedly harassed and abused by members of archrival National Students Union of India (NSUI).

The incident, just before the due elections on September 9, is an indicator of the burning rivalry and the desire to outdo each other. Vishal Kumar, a final-year Political Science (H) student and ABVP member, while going to file his nomination for the post of secretary in his college, was picked up by a group of NSUI members and harassed in a moving vehicle.

Kumar had filed a complaint with the DU election authorities and the NSUI party head. "I was taken hostage by them in a moving car and was forced to withdraw my nomination for the post of secretary in my college. They left me at the college and threatened me of dire consequences in front of a group of people," said a horrified Kumar.
Just after the incident, Kumar called a PCR van, which rescued him and two of his friends, from the college compound. Later Kumar filed a complaint with the Prasad Nagar Police Station. Also, Kumar said besides the warning, they abused him for being a Dalit and called him names.
Shahnawaz Khan, national secretary, NSUI, said, "This is absolutely not the case. No such incident has taken place. I think the ABVP has already accepted its defeat, which is why they are creating petty issues like these just when the elections are around."
However, DU officials said they are not aware of any such incident as of now. But, if the incident is reported to them, they will order an inquiry into the matter.
