In his bid to leave no clues behind, the unidentified person who robbed Asia Metals shop in Girgaum on Wednesday morning, fled with the CCTV cameras and the recording unit installed at the shop, along with booty of over Rs 3.6 lakh.

The robbery
On Wednesday morning, Devilal Kumavat, an employee of Asia Metals, was inside the shop when the robber barged in. He stabbed Kumavat with a chopper and fled with the booty comprising cash and other valuables, CCTV cameras and the recording unit. “While fleeing, the robber took away the cameras and the recorder, along with the valuables,” said Rajendra Chavan, senior police inspector, V P Road police station. Shop owner S Bapna, who is currently out of town, had recently hired Kumavat.
The police are now awaiting Bapna’s return so the exact value of the loot can be ascertained. “The incident took place around 9 am following which Kumavat was rushed to G T Hospital and is said to be out of danger. CCTV footage could have made things easy for us, but we will now have to check records of history-sheeters, or employees, if we suspect their involvement in the crime,” said another officer.
When MiD DAY contacted him, Bapna said, “I have learnt about the robbery and I am on my way to Mumbai. I will have to check the documents
to determine the exact worth of the stolen goods.”
