Facility available for the first time, charges yet to be decided
The much celebrated St Stephen's College in the Capital has made an effort that's likely to come as a relief to many aspirants who wish to gain admission here. It's perhaps a greater comfort for their parents. The college that started selling admission forms yesterday has declared that it will be providing accommodation to parents of outstation candidates in its own campus.

Quite a relief
"This is the first time we are providing accommodation for parents of students who will be selected for the interview round. The facility will be available to people who come from other parts of the country. We will accommodate the parents in our hostel guest houses, which were upgraded during Commonwealth Games 2010. Apart from this, we have 400 seats for all the courses and main list for the interview will be disclosed on May 26. This time OMR forms will also be issued for accurate and proper functioning and fee structure will also been changed according to the semester system," said KM Mathew, tutor for admission, St Stephen's College.
Money matters
"We will also charge hostel fee according to the semester system with the hike of five thousand rupees. The reason behind raising the hostel fee was that, every student wants good quality food so we are providing them the food according to their taste," he added. More than three thousand forms were sold in the first two hours yesterday. Most in demand were forms for English Honours and BSc Science Honours. "St Stephen's is quite popular for its English Honours course, so I applied for that and I hope that I do get admission here," said Jaya Bamba, one of the many candidates.
"Like many students I also applied for St Stephen's English Honours course. It is my dream to get into this college and I'll be waiting for the results, finger crossed," said Garvit Nangia, another aspirant. The admission process began on May 25 with the sale of forms for the undergraduate courses. The forms will be received till June 13. The interviews for the shortlisted candidates will take place from June 20 to July 4, a tentative schedule for which is available on the college website. Besides obtaining the prospectuses and application forms from the admission office, the students can also download the form and submit it online or at the college counter.
Get set
Delhi University begins selling its information bulletins for the admissions on May 28 and the cut off lists will be announced beginning June 15, exactly one week before it came out last year. The next four cut-off lists will be released on June 21, June 27, July 2 and July 8 respectively. The University also announced its academic calendar for the upcoming year, which will see semester mode being adopted in all courses. While the classes will begin from July 21, the first mid-semester break will be from October 1 to October 9.
Ten-tative
St Stephen's College, which started its admission process for undergraduate courses from Wednesday, will not give weightage to Class X scores this year. Other than this, the college, which will admit over 400 students across 10 undergraduate courses, is going to continue with most of the reforms introduced last year. This includes keeping the merit differential between any reserved category and the general one at a maximum of 15%. "The merit differential of 15% will continue. Even for Christian candidates, the maximum merit differential will be 15% from that of the general candidates," said Mathew. In 2008 and 2009, the merit differential was as high as 35% in certain categories.
Be your won 'master'
St Stephen's is also starting the admission process for nine postgraduate courses, which are MA economics, English, history, philosophy and Sanskrit ; MA/ MSc mathematics, operations research and MSc chemistry and physics.
