Parents protest as school allegedly kept students from attending classes for not paying entire year's fees
Parents of students studying at Rosary School yesterday gathered outside the institute in Bibvewadi and protested against the management's decision of allegedly debarring a few students from attending classes over non-payment of fees. According to parents, the school management had given out a circular, asking parents to pay the entire year's fees in advance or submit post-dated cheques after which their kids would be allowed to attend classes from the next academic year starting on June 13. Parents, however, had refused to make lump sum payment for the current academic year. Instead they requested the school to take fees on monthly basis like last year.

When the school reopened on June 13, those parents who hadn't paid feesu00a0-- demanding a fee book, break up of fees and facility to pay monthly tuitionu00a0-- sent their kids to school. And as was expected, the school management "debarred" their wards from attending classes. The school asked them to sit outside as their parents had failed to pay the fees within stipulated time. Milap Naik, a parent whose son studies in the fourth standard, alleged that his son hadn't even been allotted a division and was being harassed by school authorities for non-payment of fees.
"I agree that I didn't pay fees in advance but every year we are given a fee book according to which we pay tuition fees every month. Also, we have never asked to pay entire year's fees in advance before reopening of school. Usually, the management asks us to pay after reopening and that too in installments. If the school decides to implement new rules every other day, middle class people like us won't be able to put their wards through school," said Shakti Thakur, parent of a girl who studies in the sixth standard. Members of the Rosary Parents' Association organised a late evening meeting yesterday in which they decided to launch a full-fledged stir against school if students were not allowed in.
The Other Side
Despite repeated attempts, director of Rosary Education Group Vinay Aranha and school administrator C Balan didn't respond to MiD DAY's queries. When this reporter visited the school, security guards refused entry stating that no officials were present to speak to the press.
