Round and About without Busybee

And for this last Saturday of the financial year, a few stray thoughts and a few observations and a few points of view (all my own work):

Like the newswallahs seem to be more excited about the elections than the politicians themselves

Like every election is bigger than the previous one and is hence history in the making

Like there may be a new non-UPA govt at the Centre, but it doesn’t appear that there will be a new No 1 English channel in the country

Like old is indeed gold on news TV. Seniority and some years in the business help make Rajat Sharma’s India TV so very watchable. And it’s good to see Vinod Dua back in action. Prannoy Roy and Dorab Sopariwala are, of course, evergreen

Like Sanjay Pugalia is indeed the man for all seasons (and channels)

Like politicians are using social media as if the elections are being fought on FB and Twitter

Like social media has become an exceedingly intolerant place to be in. Try and voice your true sentiments, and you’ll have ink thrown at you (virtually, mercifully) by the BJP and AAP volunteers

Like it would be interesting to see if Karan Thapar’s switch to Headlines Today from CNN-IBN will impact the fortunes of either channel

And these stray thoughts:
Like the best ad on news TV is the Big Bazaar ad... and has given the Aashiqui song a second run

Like, if after all the hundred thousand ‘vote you must’ messages, people still don’t get out and vote in cities like Mumbai, we may as well not have any voting here

Like, I think, at least some news channels should consider bringing along a film star on Results Day to sit through all the results and present them

And this final point of view:
That next Saturday will be in the new fiscal

And one more view:
That it’s impossible to copy Behram ‘Busybee’ Contractor, one of the founding fathers of this paper. Wonder what he would think of all the sound and fury on the nightlies.
