Three city girls hope to make India proud in Rugby at the upcoming Asian Games in China






The three students Naazesh Mirza (19),u00a0 Sitara Indramohan (19) and Roshni Hormusjee (21) were chosen by a jury that includes Aga Hussain, Vice President, North Indian Rugby-Football Association, and National Rugby coach Usaia Biumaiwai.

The girls areu00a0 on their way to Pune, where they will be training with 27 others from across the country


Naazesh, a student at PES Institute of Hotel Management, said, "I've been playing for a little over a year now, and it'll be great if I'm selected. I have a good chance but I was more confident before I sustained a knee injury."

u00a0Sitara from Jain University said, "I started playing with my classmates about a year back and then somehow I got into nationals." She added, "New Zealand will be a new experience for us as it's a different and higher level. I definitely hope to make it there."

Roshni, a BA graduate from Mount Carmel, said, "I've only been playing for a month and a half now. My first match was in June and some scouts saw me and that's how all this happened. Rugby is still very new to me."

She added, "November will be a huge deal. Right now I just want to concentrate on enjoying it. I'm not really nervous about next week."

Gerald Prabhu, President, South Indian Rugby Football Association, said, "Girls from Pune, Orissa, Mumbai, Kerala and even Jammu & Kashmir will make up the team.

We have a lot of hope pinned on our three girls." Prabhu added, "Rugby was seen as an elitist sport and some think it's dangerous, which it is not.

We hope to change that and popularise it in the next few months by showing them that it's not a brutal sport like what they believe."
