A 22-year-old man, recently sacked from his job at an embroidery workshop, was arrested for kidnapping a three year old girl for ransom, police said Monday

Mohammad Sartaj, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, was arrested from Chand Bagh area in north Delhi Sunday, police said.

After being fired from his embroidery workshop job 12 days ago, Sartaj was in need of money. He kidnapped the girl on Saturday from Welcome area when he went to visit one of his relatives, police said.

Police said that after kidnapping, he made three ransom calls, demanding Rs.1.25 lakh for the girl's release, and hid the girl at his relative's house in Mustafabad in north Delhi.

"Taking the lead from the calls made from three PCOs of Chand Bagh, we arrested him and rescued the girl," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain.
