Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam today came down heavily on the Indian Premier League, saying it was a "den of corruption and betting."
Demanding resignation of BCCI chairman N Srinivasan, the Lok Sabha MP also made a damning allegation that the just- concluded T20 championship promoted all types of vices and needs to be scrapped forthwith.u00a0

Nirupam, who was here on way to Yavatmal for bypoll campaigning, questioned BCCI's decision to hold an inquiry when the police had already booked, arrested and are investigating Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan for illegal betting.
"Is the BCCI above law? It is high time BCCI was governed by rules and laws that are followed by all sports bodies in the country.
It cannot remain above law. How can a body that selects a national team be allowed to remain outside the Sports Ministry's control?" he asked.
He was pointing to the fact that Board for Control of Cricket in India was the only sports organisation that has refused to get affiliation from the Sports Ministry.
Political leaders of all hues had made it a point to dominate BCCI to play power games, he alleged, adding that it needs to be revamped.u00a0
