Kids from a Delhi orphanage also spent some time with Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi. They were given chocolates as gifts.
Students visited the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to tie rakhi.
Sending out wishes to all Delhites, Dikshit said: "I would like to wish the people of Delhi, and especially the kids who have come here from different schools to tie rakhi on this festive occasion of Raksha Bandhan."
A rakhi is a symbolic holy thread, which a sister ties to the wrist of her brother.
The brother in turn pledges to protect his sister''s honour and offers her cash or gifts.
''Raksha Bandhan'' falls on full moon day and is celebrated by Hindus.
