Three months before the terror hit Mumbai's heart, Indian Navy had proposed to strengthen coastline security with modern equipments

The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks could have been averted, if appropriate security measures had been implemented along the coastline.

According to sources, to strengthen coastline security the Navy is planning to install an equipment known as Hull Scanner that can scan the hull of floating vessels, thus preventing entry by any rogue vessel or one carrying any contraband.u00a0

"It will help in improving the security along the coastline. We have already given presentation of our system to the navy. Our modern sensors laced are far better than the ones being used presently," said Jan Widerstrom, country head of Saab International, one of the international arms manufacturing companies.

"The scanners would be equipped with sonar and other sophisticated techniques to scan the hull and other parts of the ship which remain under water. If something suspicious is detected the signal will be passed to an autonomous vehicle, which will immediately respond," Wilderstrom added.
