Competition based on case studies familiarises students with workings of automobile industry

Students from various MBA colleges got a practical knowledge of the corporate setting in automobile companies during a case study competiton.
A brainchild of J A Kulkarni, a former General Manager of Tata Motors, Mindscape is a case study competition where the students are given live industrial cases. Students then have to do research and give a detailed presentation on the automobile company.
"The preparation for the event begins four to six weeks prior to the day of presentation. It's a student-centric programme and apart from providing them with industrial contacts and the topics for the case study, the college does not provide any other help," said Kulkarni.
This year, about 15 to 20 reputed companies such as Tata Motors, Mahindra Vehicles Ltd., Siemens, Thermax, RCF, Man Force Trucks, among others, participated in the event. The students are provided with seven cases of which they are required to present one. The cases are divided into three sectors ufffd two from marketing, two from HR and three from operations. "A car for Aam Aadmi, Finders and Seekers, Metals in Market and Beyond the Wheels are some of the cases we gave to the students this year," said Kulkarni.
The event was held at the college campus of Audyogik Shikshan Mandal (ASM) Group of Institutes last week in Pimpri. The function was attended by Vijay Dhongade, the chief operation officer of Mahindra Vehicles Ltd, Chakan, who was the chief guest. Vijay Nayar, general manager of Mahindra, Nasik and Huddar from Tata Motors were among the jury members.u00a0
"Our students approached more than 100 industries from all over the city and the state including Hadapsar, Satara, Nasik, Hinjewadi, Chakan for the research," said Kulkarni. While the team representing Siemens won the first prize, the second place was bagged by Mahindra Vehicles Ltd.
