WHAT's ON caught up with artist Madhuri Bhadhuri, who is holding an exhibition in the city after 10 years and quizzed her about the current art scenario

Madhuri Bhadhuri has been painting for more than three decades now. And she is back with an exhibition, after almost 10 years. The exhibition, titled Madhuri Bhadhuri: The Theme-in Backdrop-on Canvas, will later move to the Museum Gallery in Mumbai. At their best, her paintings capture the charm of everyday life in varied hues and tones. They explore the inner self through symbolism.

Tell us more about your work.
Bhaduri:
It is inspired from certain incidents in my life. My most beautiful moments involve family, friends and places. My art reflects the fusion of all these experiences. I express myself in an introspective manner and delve into abstract forms. My paintings are very positive, as I am an optimistic person and like to paint the brighter side of life.u00a0u00a0u00a0

What do you think of Pune's art market?
Bhaduri:
Art awareness is still growing. People do not want to spend on paintings, which is a disadvantage for all of us. Hence, most artists tend to exhibit their work in other cities and avoid taking risks. Branding and awareness among art enthusiasts is sorely lacking.u00a0

Are there any special reasons for exhibiting your work in the city after 10 years?
Bhaduri:
I needed to show my work to the people of my city. Earlier, there were no big galleries to showcase my work. This time, I chanced upon Tilting Art Gallery and it suited my requirements. I am hoping many people come and see my work.

Will the ongoing recession affect the sale of your paintings?
Bhaduri:
It will affect it to a certain extent, but not much. I am confident that the exhibition will work out because people can easily afford my paintings.

At: Tilting Art Gallery, Ishanya Mall, Yerwada.
On: February 12 and February 13
