Gauging our curiosity about the title, the team working on this production is quick to clarify that it is inspired from the six 15-20 minute short plays, that make up the two-hour long piece.
"The title is apt because these are mild, enjoyable and easy pieces.
As with music, where you have easy listening, in this case, you have easy viewing, which isn't tedious," says Siddharth Kumar, one of the six directors who have directed the individual six pieces.

Somebody also slyly murmurs the other reason for the title of the play, "It's our producer's cigarette brand." Aha! Things seem to be getting clearer, already.

Their previous production, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was very well received. With Classic Milds, the group hopes to set its feet firmly in this genre.

The production includes short pieces by Anton Chekhov, Noel Coward, Harold Pinter, Neil Simon, George Kauffman and Tom Stoppard. "There is always a certain degree of interest to see a famous playwright's work.

Knowledgeable audiences will be familiar with these playwrights but perhaps not these particular pieces.
So it's a great way to watch something different," adds Akarsh Khurana, another director working on the project. He believes that since the plays are shorter they aren't tedious to sit through.

"Most people think that if it's a classic play then it must be old-school. But here we have six pieces that are only 15-20 minutes long so you don't have to suffer through much."
The directorial team includes "elders" Benjamin Gilani, Hidayat Sami and Akarsh Khurana and relatively young debutante director Hussain Dalal, Siddharth Kumar and Tahira Nath, who are both one play-old directors.

With so many creative heads working together, everybody has something to say about another's piece.

"This has become a fully organic, cross-fertilisation sort of production because everyone is present for all the rehearsals, eventually helping out as much as they can," explains Tahira, who is another producer with this project.
